![]() ![]() If you look in the middle, you'll find that the three wires change to two for a space between two bulbs, and then there's three again to the addon. Most 70 and 100 mini strings are wired like these 35 and 50 strings, only another set is added instead of the addon plug. The bulbs act as they would in the one-wire, but removing a bulb leaves the addon live. If one of the bulbs burns out, the others will remain lit because there's a resistor in the base of the bulb that continues to conduct (the lamp filament is almost a dead short, compared to the resistor.) A third way (and common for mini-lights of 35 and 50 these days) is a "three wire" scheme it's perhaps best described as an extension cord, between the male and the addon, with a series string in parallel with that circuit. If one of the bulbs is removed, all will go out. Certain bulbs could be getting more electricity than others, causing them to burn out quicker. ![]() If you notice many burned-out bulbs, you could have an electric issue on your hands. Repeatedly burnt-out bulbs can be an indicator of a more significant problem. Sometimes the wire is looped back so that it appears to be a two wire. Be sure to check your strand of string lights for burned-out bulbs. Using a socket on the strand that works, go through and individually insert each bulb into it. Remove the bulbs from the part of the strand that isn’t working and keep them together. Another way is "one wire" the bulbs (typically 2.2, 2.5, or 3.5 Volt, for 50, 50, or 35 bulbs on a string) are connected in series and there is no addon outlet. Without a light tester, you’ll have to take a more intense approach to find a bad bulb. ![]() I keep the lights plugged in while doing this. If the problem persists, take out the next bulb and do the same thing. Typically, these are c-9 and c-7 sets they have to be 120V bulbs. If the string is half lit, take the bulb out at the end of the string, plug the empty socket into the gun and click the trigger 10x. The bulbs are independantly wired to the two wires removing one leaves the others burning. One way to wire a set of lights is "two wire", with an "addon" outlet at the end. ![]()
